How Biopods Catalyst Insoles Work

Multi-Stimulus Zones

Biopods Catalyst insoles provide dynamic tactile information beneath the arch, heel, and forefoot.

As the foot loads and unloads during activity, the stimulus changes, giving the nervous system the sensory information required to coordinate safe, healthy movement.

Working like an exercise program, the insoles naturally train the feet and lower limbs for optimal function, strength, and stability—not dependence on passive support.

Adjustable Arch Stimulus

The Catalyst arch dome delivers focused tactile stimulus beneath the arch. It is a sensory stimulus—not a conventional support intended to hold the arch in a fixed position.

Catalyst provides two arch-stimulus options. Begin using the insoles without the Adjustment Discs. After one or two weeks, add the Discs if you prefer a broader, fuller arch sensation.

Adding an Adjustment Disc to the underside of each arch dome spreads the tactile stimulus over a wider surface area. Peel off the protective film and attach the Discs as demonstrated in the video.

Best use Practices

Choosing the Right Footwear is Important

Catalyst works best in soft, flexible, unrestrictive footwear that allows the toes to move and the arches to rise naturally.

Footwear Compatibility Guide

Use Catalyst Consistently

Use your Catalyst insoles for as long as possible each day and in every compatible pair of shoes.

Avoid repeatedly switching between Catalyst and conventional support or cushioning products. Doing so changes the sensory and muscular demands placed on the feet and can significantly impair the consistent foot-strengthening dynamic.

Positioning Catalyst in your shoes.

Catalyst insoles must sit securely on a flat supporting surface.

Do not place them over a factory insole or shoe midsole with built-in arch support, because the underlying contour can interfere with their position and intended sensory action.

Full-length Catalyst insoles

Full-length Catalyst insoles should only be used as replacements for removable factory insoles. Remove the factory insoles before installing Catalyst. Never place the full-length version on top of another insole.

3/4-length Catalyst insoles

The 3/4-length version is designed primarily for shoes without removable insoles. It can also be placed on top of a removable factory insole, provided that the factory insole presents a flat surface without built-in arch support.

Position each 3/4-length insole securely against the shoe’s heel pocket. Make sure it rests flat without rocking, shifting, or buckling and that the arch dome is comfortably centred beneath the arch.

Trimming to Fit Your Shoes

Full length

Remove the factory insoles from your shoes.

Stand on the Catalyst insoles with your heels positioned squarely in the heel pockets. Confirm that the arch stimulus is comfortably centred beneath each arch.

Place the corresponding factory insole (A) on top of each Catalyst insole (B), aligning the heels and centring the forefoot.

Trace around the factory insole from the ball of the foot forward.

Cut just inside the traced line using sharp scissors.

Place the Catalyst insoles in your shoes and confirm that they rest flat.

Trim only a small amount at a time—no more than approximately 1/8 inch or 3 mm during each fitting.

Never trim the heel, arch dome, or sensory components.

3/4 length

Place the insoles in your shoes with the heels tucked securely against the heel pockets. They should rest flat without buckling.

If necessary, trim a very small amount from the outer forefoot or midfoot edges. If they shift on a particularly slippery shoe lining, secure them with small hook-and-loop tabs or double-sided tape.

Never trim the heel, arch dome, or sensory components.

What to Expect

Soft Tissue Adjustment Phase

During initial use, your body will experience a four to six week period of soft tissue adjustment. This is a time when the muscles of the feet and lower limb retrain to function in a healthier manner.

As muscle function improves, mobility at the joints increases and the bones realign to more efficiently manage increased loads. You may experience transient “new” aches or pain in muscles and joints that shift from location to location, which is normal.

Persistent discomfort in one location can be associated with footwear incompatibility or a pre-existing issue such as an earlier injury, restricted joint mobility, or scar/fibrotic tissue.

If discomfort remains in the same area for more than two weeks—or becomes sharp, persistent, or progressively worse—stop using the insoles and consult an appropriate healthcare professional. The location and nature of the discomfort can provide useful information for evaluating footwear compatibility and any pre-existing restriction that may require attention.

Effective rehabilitative treatments include, but are not limited to, Active Release Technique, ultrasound, and therapeutic massage.

Generally, Biopods Catalyst Insoles should not be uncomfortable. However, some footwear and some foot types may not be compatible with Catalyst insoles:

Pain may be caused by footwear incompatibility. Visit our Biopods Shoe Guide to get more detailed information about selecting the healthiest footwear and footwear features that can cause pain.

Pain may be caused by foot type incompatibility. Some foot types may need a little pre-insole use mobilization therapy to address pre-exsitng scar/fibrotic tissue. A small percentage of people may not find Catalyst insoles suitable for them due to certain pre-existing conditions, such as fused joints in the feet.
