User Experience: The insole body's domed arch area features a series of interchangeable EVA and silicone inserts, that create varying levels of stimulus and support.
Ideally the user should progress through the insert levels until they reach a level that is most comfortable for them.
However, many long-term users were mis-guided, by the company that was previously selling Barefoot Science, to keep progressing through the inserts until they reached the highest level (Levels 6 & 7).
The higher insert levels were never originally intended as a universal end goal for every user. They were intended for specific cases that needed stronger initial motivation, eg. those with rigid flat feet.
Natural Strengthening Transitions to Artificial Support
The lower level inserts (1 to 5) create progressive static levels of stimulus that activate neuromuscular foot-strengthening mechanisms. At the higher levels (6 & 7), the insoles progressively function more like ongoing external support than a progressive stimulus tool. Over time, the feet become accustomed to, and dependent on, that artificial support.
