Susan’s experience ranges from healthcare branding for Children’s and Northwestern Memorial Hospitals to minority marketing programs for Verizon, and to technology and financial services product launches for Informatica, RCN, GE Financial Services, and Dean Witter.
Her initiatives have also included consulting with Singtel in Singapore, and the introduction of the Discover Card with the J. Walter Thompson team in Chicago, where she led the response marketing group before founding her eponymous marketing/creative firm thirty years ago.
Her leadership roles in the advertising community include terms as president of the Woman’s Ad Club and the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing (CADM). She also chaired Direct From The Heart (DFTH), a unique CADM program that acted as a clearinghouse between Chicago non-profits and marketing professionals and recognized the pro bono work of members.
During the ten years she taught campaign planning at DePaul University’s Certificate in Direct Marketing Program, Susan used authentic case studies to help local nonprofit organizations benefit from new thinking and strategy. Make-A-Wish Foundation, Juvenile Protective Association, The Girl Scouts of Chicago, and HealthWorks Theatre are among the many nonprofits that benefitted from the marketing plans her classes developed.
The advertising community has recognized her expertise and dedication. She was named Ad Woman of the Year by the American Advertising Federation, CADM awarded her its highest honor: the Charles S. Downs Direct Marketer of the Year, and in 2015 CADM honored her again by creating the Susan Kryl Silver Marketer of the Year Award in perpetuity to recognize Susan’s career dedication, leadership, and mentoring skills within Chicago’s Multichannel Response Marketing Community.
Susan, an ardent music lover, enjoyed more than two decades as an active member of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Guild Board of Directors, including several terms on the Executive Committee, and she still attends the performances each season.
Why I’m Involved with Biopods®
I have always loved walking, but I never gave my feet any respect for safely carrying me all those miles.
Even though, as I kid, I had shoved my shod feet into the Pedoscope machine to see all those marvelous little bones that were supporting my body, I still didn’t have any respect for my hard-working feet. And my footwear wardrobe, besides the school uniform regulation lace-up shoes, consisted of West African flip-flop sandals made with old tires and leather thongs, sneakers for playing tennis, and designer pumps with three-inch heels. I wore those three-inch heels on the sidewalks of New York – and London – sticking in the melting asphalt in the heat … and in the occasional grating — oblivious to the damage I was causing my feet and my body.
Then one day in Chicago, all the years of foot neglect and abuse caught up with me – and after minor surgery, those three-inch heels were gone. Replaced by models with “conservative” two-inch heels. So, since I was oblivious, the foot abuse continued.
Some years later, I met a long-time colleague and friend for a cup of coffee, and he talked about the years he had spent wearing orthotics, although still experiencing foot, leg, and hip pain. He said he had discovered, and invested in, an insole with innovative technology that finally brought him relief from the constant pain. About a year later, we talked again, and we agreed to work together on Biopods. That was more than two years ago. Since then, I have learned much more about the unique technology and the science behind Biopods – and I am honored to work with the team that developed such a brilliant product.
And I am eager to continue spreading the word that, with consistent use of Biopods Stimsoles, relief from constant pain and suffering is within easy reach to everyone worldwide.
And I still cringe every time I think about the many years of damage and neglect I inflicted on my feet. Fortunately, the human body is forgiving, and after consistent use of Biopods and suitable footwear, it appears my feet have finally forgiven me.
