BioPods® Shoe Guide

How to make footwear choices that are good for your health.

BAD

Use with caution

Stiff, Restrictive Footwear

Shoes with stiff midsoles or outsoles and restrictive uppers are not recommended because they inhibit the natural raising of the toes and arches that is critical for healthy function. Stimsoles® provide some benefit when used in shoes with these features. However, the benefits will be limited by the degree of restrictiveness.

This type of footwear should only be used infrequently and for short periods.

Flared Heels

Shoes with flared heels create lever-arm forces that can increase the ground interaction loading forces by up to 400%. Try to use shoes that have narrower rounded heels as much as possible.

Narrow, Pointy Toes

Shoes with narrow, pointy toe boxes are not recommended because they inhibit the natural raising of the toes that is critical for healthy function. These features are the primary cause of bunions and hallux valgus. Stimsoles will provide some benefit when used in footwear with these features. However, the benefits will be limited.

This type of footwear should only be used infrequently and for short periods.
